Klein ISD Alternative Classes

Bus Transportation Guidelines

Klein ISD Transportation provides curbside service on AM bus routes only.  PM route drop -off locations are designated stops and students may need to walk a maximum distance of (no more than) 0.3 miles. All elementary students will be dropped curbside, both AM and PM, as long as the driver is able to maneuver the bus through the subdivision and to the stop safely.

On AM routes, buses for Alternative Classes run door to door for all students except those who reside on a cul-de-sac street or dead-end road. Students who reside on a cul-de-sac or dead-end road board the bus at the nearest corner of the closest through street to their residence.

Students are required to be outside their residence, at the curb, at the announced time (or at the designated stop as described above for students who reside on a cul-de-sac or dead end). The bus driver will not honk the horn nor wait for students to arrive at the bus stop.

Bus drivers are instructed to pick up each student only at the stop described above. Bus drivers will return students to the same stop only. Students attempting to board the bus at a non-authorized stop will not be transported.

If your student is not riding the bus, please notify the Klein ISD transportation department by 5:00 a.m. Callers for bus routes north of FM 1960 should call the North Transportation Center (Otis Davis Center) dispatcher: (832) 249-4575 or (832) 249-4590 or office (832) 249-4566. Callers for bus routes south of FM 1960 should call the South Transportation Center dispatcher: (832) 249-4106 or office (832) 249-4599. Failure to notify transportation for three consecutive days will result in discontinuation of bus service.

All Klein ISD Transportation Department policies regarding student behavior apply to students assigned to Alternative Classes. The bus driver oversees his/her bus and may make decisions or give directions to students that the driver feels are necessary for safety. Students must sit in an assigned bus seat.

Per the district’s cell phone policy, “possession of cell phones and pagers is only allowed if they are turned off at all times and not visibly/physically present during regular school hours, including riding the school bus to school or home from school”. Cell phones must always be turned off.

Student dress code for Alternative Classes is enforced from the time students board the bus for transit to school until the student de-boards the bus at their assigned stop. Students enrolled in 8th period PE class must be in dress code before boarding buses at dismissal.

Bus service is a courtesy and may be withdrawn from any student for lack of cooperation and/or abuse of the privilege. Violation of any bus transportation procedures will result in school discipline that can include isolated instruction, out of school suspension, removal from bus, citation from KISD Police Department, and even expulsion from KISD.
