Directors New and Old

Brian Marr, Alternative Classes Director

Brain Marr

When Brian Marr was named Assistant Director of Alternative Classes in 2012, he transferred from Klein Oak High School's administrative staff. At that time, he brought five years of teaching experience outside of Klein ISD and 16 years of experience in Klein ISD as a teacher, athletic trainer and administrator (plus a lot of technology savvy)! On Mr. Kaufman's retirement in June 2016, and after serving as Mr. Kaufman's assistant for four school years, Mr. Marr was named Director of Alternative Classes.
Brian Marr received a Bachelor of Science in Education from California University of Pennsylvania and a Masters of Education from Prairie View A&M University. He insists upon continuing to be a fan and supporter of the Pittsburg Steelers as well as Penn State (not a native Texan)!
Assistant Director Gregory Coleman
Assistant Director Colleth Punch
Colleth Punch is a veteran with the Alternative Classes, having served as a part-time counselor at the DAEP and Klein High School 2000-2006, then full time and lead counselor at the DAEP 2006-2017! Ms. Punch was promoted to Assistant Director with Alternative Classes in 2017, as a third administrator position was added to staff. She brings 17 years of experience with her in this administrative role - 7 as a teacher and counselor in Aldine ISD, then 10 as a counselor in Klein ISD. Ms. Punch earned an undergraduate degree and advanced degree from Prairie View A&M. She began her career in education with certification in special education and general education, grades 1-8.

K. E. Kaufman - Retired After 40 Years of Service in Klein ISD
Prior to opening Alternative Classes in January 1994, Mr. Kaufman served KISD for 19 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator. Mr. Kaufman began college at Rice University and played basketball at both Rice and Ball State. He earned an undergraduate degree from Ball State and an advanced degree from Prairie View A&M University. The Board of Trustees approved Mr. Kaufman's appointment as the lead (and sole) school administrator for the disciplinary alternative education program (Alternative Classes) in 1994. Mr. Kaufman's experience as an instructor, coach, administrator, and mentor to students provided the leadership needed to open a DAEP that would provide sound instruction for students as well as opportunities for students to choose a path for academic and life success.
